Pet Preparations

I’m in my third trimester, and we have a dog. Did you do anything to prepare your dog for the new baby?

Our Mommy MD Guide’s reply: My husband and I have a rescue dog named Casey. We didn’t do much to prepare him before our daughter was born. After our daughter was born, my husband went home to feed the dog, and he took a blanket home with her scent on it. We had read that would help him to get used to her.

Even still, after we brought our daughter home, Casey needed some time to adjust. Every time my daughter cried, the dog cried too! I remember thinking: For goodness sakes, one of the two of you has got to stop! It took Casey about three or four days, but then he got used to the idea of a baby in the house.
