I expected pregnancy to be this serene, blissful time. But it is not! How did you make it through all of these discomforts?

Our Mommy MD Guide’s reply: Before I got pregnant, I was very surprised when my patients complained during their pregnancies. I thought to myself: You’re so lucky to be carrying a healthy child. I don’t understand why you’d complain about a few aches and pains.

I imagined that when I got pregnant, birds will bring me ribbons, and rabbits would dance around my feet. When I got pregnant, I realized how really downright uncomfortable it can be! Even though some women feel it’s the best nine months of their life, the majority of us have extraordinarily valid complaints.

Being pregnant myself gave me an appreciation for how difficult the different periods of those nine months can be. I thought to myself, “This is ridiculous! How do women live through this?” I think I was tested with a little bit of everything. I had a touch of all of the common pregnancy complaints: heartburn, nausea, back pain, etc.

But in general, my theory is that every pregnant woman gets hit by at least one major complaint. Some women are plagued by reflux, others get carpal tunnel syndrome, and still others have pelvic pressure. While you can try to alleviate these complaints, you unfortunately often have to just grin and bear it. And keep in mind how fabulous the reward is at the end!
