I always hear how important it is to get a baby on a schedule. Did you?

Our Mommy MD Guide’s reply: Getting on a schedule is so helpful for kids so they know what to expect. For our family, when I went back to work, we had to be on a schedule. The nanny arrived at a certain time each day, and then my husband and I came home at a certain time. Having a set routine made life so much easier.

It was even helpful for my husband and me to know what to expect when we got home after a long day at work. After supper each night, we gave the kids their bath, play, read, and then put them to bed. It was very structured.

However, you don’t want to be too structured and regimented. I think it’s important to have some flexibility. Otherwise you lose all of those special, spontaneous moments that make parenting such a gift. If you spend too much time focusing on what you should be doing, you aren’t as focused on your child, which is the most precious thing.
