What’s your favorite parenting tip? Listen to the non-verbal signals from your child–beginning from birth and onto to adulthood. Also, follow your instincts. Giving endless love does not mean giving material stuff’. Too much stuff is harmful to children.

What has surprised you most about parenting? Experiencing how much of parenting is actually instinctual.

How do you get your kids to eat healthy food? Stock only healthy foods, purchase only healthy foods, prepare healthy foods, and if you “cheat,” make it clear that this is an exception.

How do you work exercise into your family’s life? We walk as often as possible, take the stairs and make it a race, bike when we can, and encourage sports.

How do you recharge your batteries? Dates with my husband and girlfriend dates. I love crafts, so crafting with kids is recharging for me.

I just found out I’m pregnant, and I’m concerned how this will affect my sex life. What did you find?

I think I’d like to have a natural delivery, with no pain medication. Did you and how did you make it through?

My baby is seven weeks old and seems to be sleeping twice as much as she is awake. When she is awake, she is alert and doing everything she should be. But I worry, is she sleeping too much?—Mary D, a mom of one in West Warwick, RI
