An Interview with Dr. Wittenberg
What’s your favorite parenting tip? As in life, don’t sweat the small stuff. Raising kids is a marathon, not a sprint. Have faith that if you do your best you’ll give your kids a solid foundation for them to go forward into adulthood and thrive.
What surprised you most about parenting? How much I love my children. I never realized how incredibly much my parents loved me until I had my own children. It’s like nothing else on earth.
How do you get your kids to eat healthy food? Honestly, I usually trick them into thinking it is something different. When they are suspiciously eyeing chopped veggies in a meal, I tell them they are extra bits of flavor to make it taste better. I also don’t keep a lot of processed foods or sugary snacks around the house, so they are pretty much forced into eating healthy.
How do you work exercise into your family’s life? Because my husband works a lot of night shifts, I can’t schedule exercise in the mornings since he’s usually not home from work yet. Instead, I exercise after my kids are done with school.
Twice a week, I take them along to the gym with me so they can exercise too. My daughter loves it, she’s the athletic one. My son usually needs a little coaxing. The trick with him isto make him think it’s a game. He’ll work out as long as he doesn’t realize it’s exercise.
