Karen is a mom of three and inventor and founder of STUDENT at the wheel.

How many children do you have and what age groups? I have three children: two sons ages 22 and 20 and a daughter age 15.

What’s your favorite parenting tip? I try to give them constant encouragement. I tell them that they can achieve anything they want, to reach high. Always follow your gut.  Listen to what they say, and hear what they are saying. I give kisses every day and tell them I love them.

What has surprised you most about parenting? I didn’t know I would worry so much. I love my children so much there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for them to make them healthy happy people.

How do you get your kids to eat healthy food? I have always made three balanced meals. I never deprived them of a treat. If you do, then when they get older, they’ll only want it more.

How do you work exercise into your family’s life? Play is important for exercise as well as growing and maturing. Playing outside and getting fresh air , swimming, bike riding, as well as participating in organized sports of their choice was always part of each day.

How do you recharge your batteries? “Recharge” is not in my vocabulary, although a good nights sleep once in a while, along with a relaxing vacation could go a long, long, way. I try to exercise at least three times a week. Gardening is a therapeutic exercise that I enjoy.
