Michelle is a mom of two and the artist behind mkc photography: wonderful, whimsical artwork for your world! and Kicks By MKC our artwork + your design = the perfect kicks.

How many children do you have?  I have two boys, ages seven and four.

How did you come up with the idea for your company?  Three years ago, I literally had hundreds upon hundreds of photographs physically stored in our guest room and sitting on our computer’s hard drive. My husband finally asked me just what I planned to do with all of these and suggested I let the world see them. When my work was accepted into the first fine art show I applied to (and then the second, the third…) and all the pieces began to sell out during the opening receptions, I realized I just might be able to make a living creating and selling my art.

What’s your favorite parenting tip?  Don’t try to be Superwoman: There’s so much pressure to make the perfect cupcake icing, be the number-one volunteer at school, and have an award-winning garden. Unless you find it truly fulfilling, don’t worry about things like that. A good parent is one that knows the time spent with your child is far more valuable than how perfectly clean the playroom looks at the end of the day.

How do you get your family to eat healthy food and/or exercise?  We rarely eat out: it’s really important to me that I cook healthy, vegetarian meals every night. Because we don’t overload the boys’ schedules with organized sports, most of their exercise comes from riding bikes with us, chasing the dog, and just being kids at the playground.

How do you recharge your batteries?  Reading: I’d rather turn off the TV and read an amazing book than do anything else. If I could read that amazing book on the beach, well, that’s even better.
