How many children do you have and what are their ages? I entered the empty nest several years ago. I have two, grown children, a daughter and son.

How did you come up with the idea for your company? I’d participated in several breast cancer events–raising money & awareness–unfortunately the number of women I walked for kept increasing. I wanted to do something that would help prevent breast cancer from developing in the first place. It was while I was out for a long training walk that the phrase “Embrace Activism” came to mind. I’d practiced yoga and knew how much it can impact overall health and wellness. By the time I’d finished my training walk Embrace Activism, the business, was born.

Embrace Activism created an Awareness Color Line of premium yoga products. Yoga is know to bring positive changes to body, mind and spirit; using Embrace Activism products extend the benefits beyond the practitioner through its charitable giving program. 10% of all products prices are donated to charity.

What’s your favorite parenting tip? To revel and cherish each developmental stage children go through, giving them as much concrete experiences as possible so they can develop an understanding of the world around them. One of the best experiences is growing a vegetable garden!

How do you get your family to eat healthy food and/or exercise? Children watch with discerning eyes; comparing what you ‘say’ to what you ‘do’. My children didn’t really have a choice on healthy food–that’s all that was available. The vegetable garden mentioned above also provided a great way to introduce different vegetables…it’s amazing how ownership over a crop adds to its appeal! Similarly, exercise was modeled by both myself/their Dad and we shared many family outings involving exercise like skiing, biking and hiking. As they grew older eating healthy and being physically active was just part of their lifestyle.

How do you recharge your batteries? I love being outdoors gardening or exercising, whether it’s hiking, biking or walking in a 3 Day Walk. To be sure the recharge holds I include yoga at the end of the day!
