Barbara Schantz

Barbara Schantz is the president & CEO of Baby Dipper, LLC, and the inventor of the Baby Dipper.

How many children do you have and what ages?  I have 5-year-old twin girls, Greta and Cora, and 1-year-old twin boys, Franklin and Carlton

How did you come up with the idea for your product?  I needed a bowl that would truly enable me to feed a baby (or babies) using only one hand and there was nothing out there that was satisfactory, so I designed the Baby Dipper bowl to give parents an extra hand.

What’s your favorite parenting advice?  Don’t stress out about every little detail.  It’s the larger picture that matters, so work on a long-term basis.

What surprised you most about parenting?  How true the phrase is that says something like “the days are long, but the years are short.”

How do you get your kids to eat healthy food?  We offer a good variety of food and don’t make a big deal out of likes and dislikes, requiring only that each child taste each food at every meal.  Offering things more than one time often is enough to convince a picky eater that the new food is really OK.

How do you get your kids to exercise?  We try to spend time outside every day if the weather permits, often taking a walk around the neighborhood or going to a local playground.

How do you recharge your batteries?  I enjoy doing creative projects or games that aren’t related to Baby Dipper or daily family life, so the time for that is limited, but I try to work on a quilt I’m making by hand, play Bridge or other card games (with adults), or spend time on some other creative outlet (like carving the pumpkin or a photography project).
